PWCs (jet skis) Have Special Rules
- A PWC must maintain at least 150 feet distance from other boats.This means that traveling around the island when other boats are “behind” the island is illegal.
Anyone riding on or being towed by a PWC must wear an approved PFD
Children under 7 must not ride or be towed by a PWC unless with a parent or guardian.
It is illegal to operate a PWC during the period that begins at sunset and ends at 8:00 a.m. “Sunset” means that time determined by the national weather service.
It is illegal to harass wildlife or disturb aquatic vegetation with a PWC.
It is illegal for someone under 14 to drive a PWC
Those 14 and 15 years of age may operate a PWC only if they have obtained a boating safety certificate and are with a parent or legal guardian
Those at least 16 years of age and born after December 31, 1978, may operate a PWC legally only if they have obtained a boating safety certificate.
All operators born after December 31, 1978 (regardless of age) must have a boating safety certificate.
